“Squid Game” Season 3: Is the squid game ending in a damp squid bath?

One of Netflix's most resounding hits, "Squid Game" concluded with a third season on June 27. The English-language press is divided: some find it a good ending to the bloody Korean satire, while others regret a lack of inspiration that weakens the overall performance. Warning: this press review contains spoilers.

NO A successful conclusion

He's been to hell twice, of his own free will. Squid Game's main character, Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), has played every deadly game devised by a mysterious organization—once (in season 1) to pocket a fortune, and again to try to put an end to the "squid game." The third season, released by Netflix on June 27, picks up where the second season left off—with failure. "When we meet Candidate 456, who is seemingly nearly invincible," summarizes The Daily Telegraph , " his insurrection against the billionaires who designed the trials has been swiftly quelled, and his friends gunned down in front of him."

He still has a few allies left in this lopsided struggle. But the ruthless rules of the game mean that, challenge after challenge, the participants are a little fewer. And the jackpot is all the greater, whetting the appetites of the remaining competitors. Ed Power, who wrote the review in the British daily, appreciated this final installment. “Action-packed, full of twists and turns […], it constitutes a well-intentioned and generally successful conclusion to this South Korean success that has captured the imagination of the entire world.”

The same story is heard on the other side of the Atlantic, where Variety headlines a season 3 that “deals one last devastating blow and opens a stunning path to the future.” In this leading Hollywood magazine, Aramide Tinubu acknowledges that the final chapter is less spectacular than the previous ones. “Still, it presents some fascinating twists that make the last six episodes of this intense saga entirely worthy of interest.” She reveals some of them.
